This article describes how to register a drone in Sri Lanka with all the links required. Drone registration in Sri Lanka is done by CAASL (Civil Aviation Authority Sri Lanka). As at May 2021, there are 4 different categories of drones or unmaned air crafts. They are,
- Category D= 200 g or below
- Category C= Above 200 g but at or below 1 kg
- Category B= at 1 kg but below 25 kg
- Category A= at 25 kg or above
The only instance where you don’t have to register your drone is if it’s belong to category D and doesn’t have any data retrival tool such as a camera. This means that even if your drone is less than 200 g in weight, you have to register it if it have a camera.
To register your drone you have to use form CAA/AU/015 and mail it to [email protected]. This is a free process, but registering the drone doen’t mean you have permission to fly the drone.
